Remembrance Day Assembly
We are tremendously proud of our grade four learners who presented our annual Remembrance Day Assembly today in the presence their friends and families.  Assemblies such as these are very important learning opportunities for everyone as we set out to “remember”.  We encourage you to talk about this important occasion at home as well so that the tradition of “remembering” continues.

Some photos from our assembly are included in this newsletter; however, you can find more on your Twitter feed (@beachycoveelem).

Library Learning Commons Redesign
We have started to plan for a redesign of our physical space available to us in our library learning commons in an effort to make it a true hub of learning, innovation, and knowledge creation.  Before we proceed with our redesign, we would like to have a computer model/drawing of our space so we can play around with various designs. If you have expertise in computer drawing and design and wouldn’t mind assisting us in this project, we would love to hear from you.  If you can assist us, please send an e-mail to our Teacher Librarian, Roxanne Penney.

Bookshelf Painting
Again, in an effort to modernize our Library Learning Commons, we are endeavouring to brighten up this important learning space.  We currently have six metal bookshelves that are currently industrial grey – hardly a stimulating colour for a K-4 library.  Do you own or work in an auto-body shop that might be able to give these shelves what my mother used to call “a lick of paint”, we’d love to hear from you.  If you can help us with this aspect of our library learning commons, please e-mail our Teacher-Librarian, Roxanne Penney.

The Gathering Place
Thank you so much for your kind and generous donations of “surplus” Hallowe’en treats – the boxes have been packed and will be delivered to The Gathering Place tomorrow.  Their guests will surely enjoy these treats in the weeks ahead.

Photo Retakes
A photographer from Lifetouch Photography will be here during the morning of Thursday, November 15, 2018 to do picture retakes.  If you would like to have your child’s photo taken again, please send along the proofs from the first shoot so the photographer knows about the changes you’d like to make.

School Closures
Please be reminded that we are closed on Friday, November 9, 2018 and Monday, November 12, 2018 in observance of Remembrance Day.

Advance Notice – Christmas Collection
Continuing our efforts to instill values around community service, we have selected the Thrive Community Network as our charity for Christmas giving this year.  The Thrive Community Network is a local organization that was established in 2001 as part of the province’s Community Youth Networks.  The mandate of this organization is to provide services and support to resilient youth and young adults who live in poverty with limited access to mainstream programs and services.

Thrive is looking for new personal care items and stocking stuffers in order to give holiday stockings to its members at their annual Christmas dinner.  They are specifically looking for men’s and women’s deodorant, body wash/soap, shampoo/conditioner, razors, shaving cream, toothbrushes, toothpaste, men’s and women’s socks, individual tissue packs, lip balms, laundry pods, warm hats, stretch gloves, hand warmers, and/or Sobey’s/Tim Horton gift cards of $5 or $10 values.

We will be accepting donations up to and including Friday, December 14, 2018at which point we will deliver our collection.

Let’s show this organization our best generosity ever and support them in their efforts to shape the lives of these youth and young adults.
