News & Notes, Volume 15, No. 11

Dear Families:

Just a couple of notes for you on the eve of what appears to be another dump of snow for our area.  Winter is nice, but I’m certainly ready to see some color in our world other than grey and white.  There has to be some green grass under those mountains of snow!

50/50 Lottery
Tomorrow is the big day for our 50/50 lottery.  We need all of our tickets (sold and unsold) returned tomorrow morning along with the monies in preparation for the draw tomorrow afternoon.  We thank you for your kind and enthusiastic support of this fundraising project, the proceeds from which will go entirely to our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club.  (In the event we are closed tomorrow due to weather, please return everything on Monday — and, as I type this, I am reminded about the potential for another storm on Monday; should we be closed on Monday, please return everything on Tuesday.  As my dear ol’ mudder used to say, “Stop the world and let me off!”)

School Closures
Please remember that we are closed next Friday, March 6, 2020.  We will be involved in professional development in the morning and report card preparation in the afternoon.  School is also closed on Monday, March 16, 2020 in observance of St. Patrick’s Day.  And, we will hold our fifth and final PD day on Friday, March 27, 2020.

KinderStart
Our second KinderStart session is set for Friday, March 20, 2020 – no school for our current kindergarten learners on this day.

Staff Appointment
We are pleased to welcome Sara Ropson to our learning community.  Ms. Ropson will be replacing Mrs. Delaney in Kindergarten for the remainder of the year.  Her e-mail address is saraeropson@nlesd.ca.  Families from Mrs. Delaney’s class should note this in their contact list.

OPTIS – Online Parent Teacher Interview Scheduler
As you already know, our parent-teacher interviews for term II  are set for Thursday, March 26, 2020(we will close at 11:00am).  Our system for generating appointments for parent-teacher interviews is now open.  If this link doesn’t work, please copy and paste www.parentinterviews.com/beachycove into your web browser bar and go from there.  If you have any issues, please send an e-mail to Lisa Morgan, one of our school secretaries.

Kindness Week
Kindness Week here at Beachy Cove is so far a resounding success.  We especially enjoyed our birthday party for Pounce yesterday after a most delicious breakfast prepared by our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club volunteers.  We were treated to sausages, waffles, and blueberries with whipped cream.  We send truckloads of thanks to all of the volunteers who made this happen.

Easter Vacation
School will be closed for our annual Easter vacation from April 10-19, 2020.  Thursday, April 9, 2020 is a regular school day with a normal 2:40pm closure.  We reopen at 8:30am on Monday, April 20, 2020.

School Development Surveys
School development surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process. The survey results will be provided to our school and used with other data to help us identify our strengths and challenges. We will then create and implement a plan to build on our successes and address our areas of challenge.

The survey is anonymous, which means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you. We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions of our school.

The family survey will be available until March 20, 2020. You can access the survey by clicking here.

Chapters Night
Our annual Chapters Night is scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2020.  The event gets underway at Chapters Bookstore on Kenmount Road in St. John’s.  Chapters will return 20% of all purchases that evening to our school in the form of a gift card that we will use to add quality literature to our library shelves.

KinderGrad Photos
We have distributed information to our kindergarten families about the upcoming KinderGrad photgraphy session with Lifetouch.  This event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2020.
