Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week
Thank you so much for your contributions to Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week at our school.  We are truly thankful for every kind gesture we witnessed this week from our families and from our learners, too.  Your continued support of our school never goes unnoticed.  We extend special thanks to the parent representatives on our school council for coordinating all of the special treats this week.

Mid-Winter Break
Please remember that our school will be closed on Monday coming, February 17, 2020 for our mid-winter break.

Skating Parties
Please be reminded that our annual skating parties get underway next week from Tuesday through to Friday.  Detailed information has already been distriburted and we invite you to refer to that for your child(ren)’s specific schedule.

Most importantly, we need to have the permission slip signed and returned to school.  We are no longer accepting permission over the telephone due to legal reasons.

We extend our thanks and appreciation to the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s for sponsoring these sessions for our learners.  In my thirty years in this field, I have not seen another town support its schools like the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s does and that is something of which we can all be proud.

50/50 Ticket Lottery
Our second and final 50/50 lottery for this school year is now underway.  Tickets and other information are being distributed this afternoon; please check your child(ren)’s school bags for them.

All proceeds from this lottery will go to our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club to support their efforts in providing a nutritious breakfast for our learners for the sixteen weeks (Yes, just sixteen weeks!) following the lottery.

If, for reasons of personal conviction, you don’t wish to participate in the lottery, please return your tickets to the school as soon as possible as we often have other families looking for extra tickets.

Tickets are in books of five and each ticket costs $2.  Tickets and money must be returned to the school by Thursday, February 27, 2020 in preparation for the draw on Friday, February 28, 2020

Grade Three Chess Club
Our grade three learners can now participate in our Friday Chess Club being run by two of our grade three parents, Andrea and Hugh.

The club is part of the Newfoundland and Labrador School Chess Association and it will be participating in their first tournament next week.  The club is in the primary division (K-3) and your grade three child(ren) is/are welcome to join regardless of skill level – it will be a fun learning experience.

The tournament runs on Saturday, February 22, 2020.  Registration is from 9:30am-10:00am and costs $20 per registrant.  The tournament is being staged at MacDonald Drive Junior High School in the east end of St. John’s.

If you are interested in having your child join, please e-mail Andrea by Tuesday, February 18, 2020.

Cafeteria Menu Change
Our taste test of the roasted baby potatoes was a huge hit with our learners as were the roasted turnips/carrots.

The roasted baby potatoes have been added as the side dish to the roasted chicken leg dinner and the chicken burger dinner on the cafeteria menu.  They are also available as a separate side dish on Tuesdays only for $3.25.

The revised menu is on our website under the “Cafeteria” tab.  Please make these changes on the paper copies we have already sent home for your future reference.
