Education Week Information, etc.

Education Week
Believe and Achieve is the theme of this year’s Education Week celebrations across Newfoundland and Labrador.  To mark this week at our school, we have some special activities planned for our learners.

Monday, February 12, 2018
Our day will begin with a reading of the Education Week declaration over the PA system.  We will also discuss the Olympics and the Olympic dream.  We encourage our learners to dress in Canadian colors to show support for our Canadian Olympians.  Classes will be encouraged to spend some time outside on this day to enjoy what hopefully will be a beautiful winter day (fingers crossed!).

Tuesday, February 13, 2018
This day has been designated as Trashless Tuesday.  We encourage our learners to bring healthy recess and lunch items in reusable containers.  We will also mark “Turn Out the Lights” Tuesday as we encourage our learners to bring their favourite book and a flashlight.  We will turn out the lights and enjoy our books sometime throughout the day.

Wednesday, February 14, 2018
We encourage our learners and staff to dress in Valentine colors today as we mark this special day.  We will also celebrate the 100th day of school so far this school year.

Thursday, February 15, 2018
This is “Career Day” at Beachy Cove.  It’s never too early to begin thinking about the future and that’s what we hope to achieve with our Career Day.  On this day we encourage our learners to come to school dressed as they would like as their career when they grow up.

School Council
The parent representatives on our school council have prepared a small bulletin (for parents/families) and a drawing/coloring activity for our learners.  These are being distributed this afternoon to our learners; please check school bags tonight.

School Closure
Don’t forget that we are closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 7, 2018 for teacher/staff professional development.  We will be engaged in a full day of learning about LGBTQ awareness and creating safer spaces for those who identify with this community.

Long Weekend
Our school will be closed on Friday, February 16, 2018 and Monday, February 19, 2018 for our mid-winter break.

Skating Sessions
Our skating sessions organized and sponsored by the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s are set for the week of February 19-23 as per details already e-mailed.  Paper copies are being distributed today which contains permission slips.  Students will not be permitted to attend without the signed permission slip; telephone permissions are no longer acceptable.
